All McGill’s Buses Getting Contactless Payment By End Of 2017

20th October 2017

Contactless payment is being introduced on all McGill’s buses by the end of the year

Customers will be able to buy their single, return, all-day and weekly tickets -– up to the value of £30 -– with their Contactless bank cards or enabled mobile devices.

The Greenock-based company has already started rolling out Contactless, with Erskine to Glasgow services being the first to get it.

Advantages will include buses spending less time at stops.

Ralph Roberts, McGill’s Managing Director said: “The first contactless payment routes to go live –- on Erskine to Glasgow services — are commencing the final phase of our payment revolution.

“Once this technology has bedded in, we will roll it out to every bus service we operate by the end of this year.

“Our considerable investment in new ticketing technology in 2016 is what is making this possible. Mobile, Smart and now Contactless payments are making journeys quicker and more convenient for McGill’s bus passengers.

McGill’s employ around 1,000 staff, operating 400 buses across 110 routes with depots in Greenock, Barrhead, Blantyre, Inchinnan and Johnstone.
